Nose Surgery
The path to a perfect profile.
Nose Surgery
Nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, is a procedure for redesigning and reconstructing the nose to correct its form and/or function. As performed by a plastic surgeon for cosmetic reasons, the objective is to maintain or improve function while reshaping the nose to be more aesthetically pleasing, proportionate, and symmetrical.
It’s important to note that noses vary by ethnicity and gender, and there is no one standard of beauty that is right for everyone. Still, taking these differences into consideration, one may be unhappy with such features as a too-large, asymmetrical or crooked nose, excessively flaring nostrils, a bump on the bridge, a bridge that is too broad, or a tip that is bulbous or hooked. If your self-image is suffering because of any of these conditions, you should consider rhinoplasty.

Nose Surgery Treatment Plan
Rhinoplasty is one of the most common of all cosmetic procedures. Before the procedure, Dr. Bass will take your expressed goals and objectives and explain to you exactly what he is going to do surgically to achieve them. Expect minimal pain and bruising around the eyes, as well as a congested sensation akin to having a bad cold. Rhinoplasty patients usually leave the outpatient facility with a light-weight splint that reinforces the reshaped nose. However, in a week that splint will be removed, and within two weeks, you’ll be able to get back to business as usual.
Frequently Asked Questions
Rhinoplasty is surgery of the nose, and it can be performed for cosmetic or functional reasons. Aesthetically, it is one of the most common procedures in cosmetic surgery because the technique can be used to safely reshape and resize a nose to be more attractive and proportionate to the patient’s other facial features.
Generally, rhinoplasty is not recommended until the patient has completed 90% of his or her growth. That can be as early as 13 for girls and 15 for boys. It is the most requested aesthetic surgical procedure among teenagers, so be sure your teen is mature enough to handle the surgery, recovery time, and subsequent change in appearance.
When you awake from anesthesia, your nose will be packed with gauze, so you will need to breathe through your mouth. There may be a splint or cast to support the new shape of your nose and a dressing covering it all. You will be bruised and swollen, and possibly have the beginnings of two black eyes. This is normal and will subside over the first week or so. Most of the swelling resolves within two weeks to a month, but it may take up to a year to see the final results.
Your nose will be very sensitive and swollen for about a month and a half. As the swelling gradually goes down, your new nose will begin to emerge. About 90 percent of the swelling is gone by three months after surgery and the rest slowly disappears over the next year.

Nose Surgery
Nose reshaping, or rhinoplasty, is advised in cases where one’s nose is cause for personal embarrassment. What’s more “personal” is the operative word here, because the classic turned-up nose by no means suits all individuals. Noses vary by ethnicity and gender, and there is no one standard of beauty that is right for everyone. Still, taking these differences into consideration, one may be unhappy with such features as a too-large, asymmetrical or crooked nose, excessively flaring nostrils, a bump on the bridge, a bridge that is too broad, or a tip that is bulbous or hooked. If your self-image is suffering because of any of these conditions, you should definitely consider rhinoplasty.
