For lip enhancements, both the Juvederm XC and Juvederm Vollure are procedures to consider. We at Danik MedSpa, located near Miami, offer both of these procedures, and we can help you select the right one for your needs. While both procedures are effective, fast, and approved by the FDA to treat wrinkles, one treatment may better for you than the other according to your specific needs and lifestyle. If you have further questions about these procedures and how you could benefit, contact us today to learn more about both procedures and to schedule an appointment with a clinician.

Juvederm XC Procedure & Benefits

Juvederm XC is a hyaluronic acid filler injection approved by the FDA for lip plumping as well as wrinkle minimization. It can last up to one year and can eliminate vertical lip lines as well as lines at the corner of the mouth.

The injection procedure can take anywhere from fifteen to twenty minutes depending on the number of injection sites and there is no downtime after, so patients may return to their regular lives more quickly. It provides minimal discomfort because the injection itself is formulated with lidocaine which provides a numbing sensation to the application site.

Patients can, however, expect minor swelling which will usually subside within the day. The results of the injection are immediate and the chances of complications or infection are near zero. This is due to the fact that hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body. Because of this, patients do not even have to have an allergy test prior to the procedure to receive the injection.

How Does Juvederm Vollure Differ?

Juvederm Vollure is also a hyaluronic acid filler. However, unlike Juvederm XC, it is approved by the FDA for up to eighteen months before another treatment session is required. The important thing to note, however, is that the Juvederm Vollure is only FDA approved for the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles of the face. That said, your clinician may recommend using the Vollure for lips if they feel it would be effective and worthwhile.

The Juvederm Vollure injection is also different because it utilizes very different technology. Both injections use hyaluronic acid molecules. However, HA molecules can come in different molecular weights. What the Vollure does is it cross-links HA molecules of different molecular weights to achieve a gel that can be both thick and thin at the same time. This means that it can perform differently when injected into the face. Meanwhile, the XC consists of HA molecules that all have the same molecular weight which makes it perform the same consistently throughout the gel. This process of cross-linking similarly weighted HA molecules is called Hylacross while the cross-linking of differently weighted HA molecules is referred to as Vycross.

Both procedures have their pros and cons and it is only with the help of a skilled practitioner that you can truly know which one will be right for you.
