When summer comes along, the beach becomes the hotspot.. literally. With the sun, water, and sand, we all find some time to hang out and have a good time- but nothing comes without a cost. We find that the hot weather can cause several things to happen on our skin: age spots, acne, wrinkles, and even worse – possibly skin cancer. So how can we still have fun without risking our healthy skin?
ALWAYS moisturize. Apply lightweight, water based moisturizers on both your face and body. You can also take it a step further and apply a serum around your eyes to protect this sensitive area even more. If you become dry in the summer, even more of a reason to moisturize. Follow the same routine as if your skin was oily, except you might want to switch to heavier solution to hydrate your skin even more.
Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen, this means they block both UVA and UVB rays. Pick one with a minimum of SPF 15 and apply it everyday on the parts of your body that are exposed to the sun (don’t forget your lips!). Don’t let clouds fool you, the suns rays can still reach your skin! If you’re going to the pool or beach, re-apply every two hours to maintain your skin protected. If you don’t like the white cast on your face, try a tinted sunscreen.
Trade in your liquid foundation for a mineral based powder with SPF. Skip the creamy blushes or bronzers and stick with powders to let your skin breathe.
The hot weather, the excessive sweat, and the makeup + sunscreen increase the amount of dead skin cells. Slough them off by using a scrub or loofah a couple times a week.
Hot weather = short shorts & dresses. Keep your skin from drying out by replacing your razor often, using a shaving cream/gel, and moisturizing immediately after.
Use these helpful tips throughout the summer and you’ll have the best looking – and healthiest – skin on the beach !
